- Corten steel: Corten steel, also known as Weathering steel, is a high-strength, low-alloy steel that contains elements such as copper, phosphorus, silicon and nickel. These alloying elements allow the steel to form a stable rust layer when exposed to the atmosphere, thereby preventing further corrosion. This layer of rust gives corten steel its unique reddish-brown appearance, making it highly durable in outdoor environments.
- Stainless steel: Stainless steel is an iron-based alloy that contains at least 10.5% chromium, providing excellent corrosion resistance. Alloying elements such as nickel and molybdenum further enhance its resistance to rust and high temperatures. Stainless steel fire pits are generally available in two grades, 304 and 316, of which 316 grade stainless steel has stronger corrosion resistance and is ideal for coastal or humid environments.
